Mesa Bank Donates $25,000 For Construction of East Valley YMCA

MESA - (March. 22, 2006) - Mesa Bank President/CEO Neil Barna is pleased to announce that Mesa Bank donated $25,000 for the construction of the East Valley YMCA, which will be built in the eastern part of the city of Mesa.

"We are strong supporters of the YMCA mission to promote physical fitness for people of all ages," said Barna. "Mesa and the East Valley are growing quickly and this new facility will serve the people of the East Valley for years to come. We are glad to be among the first East Valley companies to support the construction of the new East Valley YMCA."

The 35,000-square-foot East Valley YMCA is to be located in the eastern part of the city of Mesa on the campus of A.T. Still University, 5850 E. Still Circle, which is near Recker and Baseline roads.

For more than 20 years, Barna has been a tireless fund-raiser for YMCA community projects that benefit youth and family activities at various YMCA family centers in the East Valley.

He is currently chairing the East Valley YMCA Leadership Gifts Committee, which is helping to raise $1.7 million to build the new facility. The Leadership Gifts Committee is responsible for enlisting 100-percent giving from the members of the Mesa Family YMCA Board of Managers and the East Valley YMCA Founders Committee.

Mesa Bank's $25,000 donation to build the new East Valley YMCA will be given over a five-year period, Barna said.

In addition to chairing the East Valley YMCA Leadership Gifts Committee, Barna is also active in the Mesa Family YMCA's annual Strong Kids Campaign, which raised $152,812 for youth scholarships in 2006. Mesa Bank sponsored a foursome in the Mesa Family YMCA Fifth Annual Golf Tournament on Dec. 2 that raised $10,000 for the Strong Kids Campaign. The youth scholarships make it possible for needy children to use YMCA facilities as part of the YMCA pledge that no child shall be turned away due to the financial inability of the family.

During 2005, Barna's involvement was instrumental in the Mesa Family YMCA Champions Park Project that successfully raised $340,000 to renovate an outdoor area in Mesa for youth sports and fitness activities. Champions Park, which includes illumination so youth can play and practice under the lights, opened in January and is located near the Mesa Family YMCA.
